Is this a health hazard? What would you do?

I work in a large canadian grocery store. Last week, the sewer truck came and started emptying the sewage....during store hours!! It stunk so bad, I felt like I was going to puke. Right next to the sewer drainage is the meat shop. During the entire time they were draining the sewer...the butchers were handling meat, cutting it and putting it out for people to buy!!! How dangerous is this? I won't buy meat there for a long time to come!!!!!
