New to credit cards, questions about credit?

I just got a credit card about a month ago and im new to this whole thing. I was just wondering if i sped lets say 250 dollars on something would i gain more credit than if i spent 2 dollars on something or do you get the same amount? And how long does it take for the credit company to actually process your credit?
